A review of food waste bins has been undertaken in the North West and City Centre by Glasgow City Council and they identified two specific issues in flatted properties namely:
As a consequence of this and as part of a pilot programme, bins will be removed from around 2,500 backcourts within the next two weeks. You should receive a letter from Glasgow City Council if the changes affect you.
For properties where bins have been removed, residents who still wish to recycle their food waste will be able to access an enhanced network of public food waste bins at 200 sites across the north west of the city. A list of these locations can be found on the Council’s website - https://glasgow.gov.uk/RecyclingPoints. The location of these public/on street facilities means that no one will need to undertake anything other than a short walk to use these facilities.
The bins that remain in backcourts will move onto a 16 day collection frequency and ensure the same vehicle, driver and crew will service specific properties moving forward.
You can read the letter from Glasgow City Council in full here and you can find out more about their recycling services at: https://glasgow.gov.uk/recycling.
