Mutual Exchange

Those who have been a tenant of a Registered Social Landlord (i.e. Housing Association, Local Authority or Housing Co-operative) for 12 months or more can request to exchange their house with the tenant of the same landlord, or another social housing landlord.

There are various ways to find someone to swap homes with. There are mutual exchange websites like www.homeswapper.co.uk or www.houseexchange.org.uk and social media sites like Facebook or Gumtree.  It can also happen verbally or choosing to exchange with a family or friend.

Glasgow West Housing Association has a Mutual Exchange Register which is a list of tenants who are interested in a Mutual Exchange. It contains details of properties both within and out with the Glasgow West Area.

Found another tenant willing to exchange with you?

When you have found another tenant you want to exchange with, both tenants must have completed a Mutual Exchange Form. Please send both the application forms along with a signed written letter from each party detailing the request.

We will consider your request and provide an answer within 28 days.

HomeSwapper

HomeSwapper is a national online register to help facilitate mutual exchanges, however there is a fee for this service. GWHA will reimburse our tenants the cost of joining HomeSwapper provided you meet our criteria. Examples include:

• Clear rent account or agreed repayment arrangement
• Meeting tenancy obligations such as no anti-social behaviour issues
• Property kept in good condition
