As a Registered Social Landlord (RSL), we are required to comply with the regulatory requirements for all social landlords, and the standards of governance and financial management for RSLs. These requirements are set by the Scottish Housing Regulator (SHR) in line with its powers under the Housing (Scotland) Act 2010. Our Management Committee assess compliance with these standards on an ongoing basis, and annually submit an “Annual Assurance Statement” to the SHR to confirm the outcome of this extensive assessment process.
In 2020 GWHA submitted a “compliant” Annual Assurance Statement to the SHR, however, in February 2021, following discussion with the SHR in relation to a Notifiable Event report we submitted (in line with statutory guidance), our regulatory status was set by the SHR to “compliant (under review)”. We have acknowledged the SHR concerns around this Notifiable Event, and we fully understand the potential outcome of the planned regulatory review. In this respect GWHA’s Management Committee is committed to fully engaging with the SHR to provide the necessary levels of assurance that demonstrate our learning from this Event, and with a view to demonstrating that this is an exception to GWHA’s embedded robust governance and compliance culture.
