If you want to end your tenancy with GWHA you must give 28 days’ notice in writing.  This is a condition of your tenancy.  When you let us know you want to end your tenancy we will ask you to submit notice in writing, to the office. Your 28 days’ notice starts from when we receive this.

GWHA can end your tenancy agreement if there is a breach of the tenancy agreement and we proceed with court action and a decree for eviction is granted by the Sheriff Court. The most common breaches of the tenancy agreement are:

  • Failure to pay your rent and keep your account four weeks in advance;
  • Anti-Social Behaviour;
  • Condition of the property/garden;
  • Failure to occupy the property as your principal home;

If a tenancy ends with the death of the tenant, under certain circumstances people living in the house at the time of the tenant’s death may be able to succeed to the tenancy.  For more information on succession, use the ‘Finding Your Tenancy Service Officer’ tool, which will provide the contact details of your Housing Officer who can provide you with all relevant information.

In the unfortunate event that you find yourself responsible for clearing property from a deceased relative’s tenancy, GWHA generally requests that you clear the property within a two week period from the date of death and return all keys to the office. GWHA realises that this is a difficult and stressful time and we can provide advice and support to assist.
