We held a consultation event for tenants on 3 October. A number of tenants attended and heard about the changes in legislation brought in by the 2014 Act, as they pertain to the allocation of our properties, which will take effect from May 2019.
The “reasonable preference” groups have changed and we will have to review our Allocations policy as a result. These are the groups of applicants that have to be given priority over other applicants due to their level of housing need:
• Social housing tenants who are under occupying their home;
• Homeless persons with unmet housing needs; and
• Persons who are living in unsatisfactory housing conditions with unmet housing needs.
Those attending were generally in agreement with the reasonable preference groups. Of greater concern to tenants was how some tenants behave once they sign their tenancy agreements. We explained that we would also be reviewing our anti-social behaviour policy and consulting on that at a later date.
We will review our Allocations policy accordingly and report to our Management Committee in February 2019.
